Running a little late to the #noaistarterpack tren Running a little late to the #noaistarterpack trend, but here’s my take! I really liked the idea of designing a little doll/action figure of myself and thinking about what my accessories would be. It was such a fun way to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon. As for the AI side of this trend, my thoughts have always been pretty simple: it’s just another tool in the toolbox. I use AI in my process sometimes to help brainstorm ideas, organize my thoughts, or handle boring admin stuff. But when it comes to making the art? That’s all me. I’ve never used AI to generate my illustrations, and honestly, I don’t ever want to. For me, that would take away the joy of creating, which is kinda the whole point, right? I really hope we start to see more clear regulations around how AI models are trained. Like actual rules with integrity behind them. I know that’s wishful thinking, but I imagine bigger companies with a lot to lose will help shape that future. Until then, I’m just doing what I can, keeping my head down and creating art the way I always have. It would’ve saved me a lot of self-doubt. Growing up, I was constantly told I was “too quiet,” asked why I didn’t talk more 😶, and made to feel like I needed fixing. At one point, my family even put me in therapy because they thought something was wrong with me 😔. Spoiler: it didn’t go the way they expected. I kept waiting for the moment I’d magically become a “normal” young adult. But that never happened... because there was nothing wrong with me to begin with. It turns out, I’m just an introvert. I like quiet. I like my own company. I like thinking deeply and moving at my own pace. And honestly? That’s not something that needs fixing. It’s something that deserves understanding. So if you’ve ever been made to feel like you’re too quiet, too different, or too much of something you can’t change, this is your reminder: There is nothing wrong with you. It’s a pink and yellow moth layered over a dreamy burst of florals. 🦋🌸 I created this illustration just for the contest, which always makes sharing feel a bit more vulnerable. I poured so much love and intention into it, and I pushed myself to add more detail than I usually do. And honestly, it felt so good to get lost in all the little lines and petals. Spring is officially on the horizon, and I couldn’t be happier! 🌿✨ We’ve had the most beautiful 17°C weather the past couple of days, and even though it’s cooling down again over the weekend, I know winter is on its way out. That alone is enough to make me giddy! 😆🌸 This is hands down my favourite time of year, longer days, fresh blooms, and that feeling of everything waking back up again. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that when you find the right tools for you, everything just clicks. Lately, I’ve been all about my display tablet + my Photoshop setup, and honestly? Best switch I’ve made. I used to work mostly in Procreate on my iPad, but the layer limits? Yeah…they weren’t vibing with my need for big files and extra detail. So late last year, I made the jump, and I haven’t looked back since! Brush-wise, I’m completely obsessed with @mimimoo_illustration ’s brushes lately. They’ve got the perfect mix of texture + personality, which is huge for me because I never want my work to feel too digital. I love using brushes that mimic real materials, adding a little paper texture over the top, and keeping my lines just imperfect enough to give my work that handmade feel. That said, it’s not easy fighting my instinct to make everything look too polished. I have to remind myself that a little messiness = charm. (Working on it. 😂) Anyway, tell me, what’s your go-to art tool? That one thing you swear by and can’t live without? They take four different colour palettes and a full two years of second-guessing before they even start to feel right. 😂 In early 2023, I visited New York City for the first time and I completely fell in love with it. The energy, the iconic landmarks, the little shops tucked into every street corner… I had the best time just being there. When I got home, I knew I wanted to commemorate my trip with a detailed illustration. Something that captured that exact feeling: light, fun, full of energy. Easy, right? Wrong. Because apparently, trying to translate an emotion into a colour palette is way harder than it sounds. I started with my usual colours… hated it. Went back to the drawing board with a more elegant palette—it looked gorgeous but didn’t feel like me or the energy I was looking for. Then I tried a softer, lighter palette, which was lovely, but still didn’t quite hit the mark. Now? I’m on my fourth iteration of the colours, and for the first time… I actually think this might be the one. 🤞 So tell me, have you ever had a project that just wouldn't let you finish it?
